Stability of Bright Solitary-wave Solutions to Perturbed Nonlinear Schrr Odinger Equations

چکیده
In this article, dissipative perturbations of the nonlinear Schrr odinger equation (NLS) are considered. For dissipative equations, when determining the stability of a solitary wave, one must locate both the point spectrum and the continuous spectrum. If the wave is to be stable, all the spectrum must reside in the left-half plane, except for the translational eigenvalue(s) at the origin. However, for the NLS the continuous spectrum is located on the imaginary axis, as the NLS can be thought of as an innnite-dimensional Hamiltonian system. Since dissipative perturbations will destroy this feature, it is then possible for eigenvalues to bifurcate out of the continuous spectrum and into the right-half plane, leading to an unstable wave. Here we show that the Evans function can be extended across the continuous spectrum, and hence it can be used to track these bifurcating eigenvalues. The extension is done for a general class of equations, and the result should therefore be useful for a larger class of problems than that presented here. Using the extended Evans function, we are then able to locate the spectrum for bright solitary-wave solutions to various perturbed nonlinear Schrr odinger equations, and discuss their stability. In addition, we discuss the existence and stability of multi-bump solitary waves for a particular perturbation, the parametrically forced NLS equation.

Analyticity of Solitary-wave Solutions of Model Equations for Long Waves
It is shown that solitary-wave solutions of model equations for long waves have an analytic extension to a strip in the complex plane that is symmetric about the real axis. The classes of equations to which the analysis applies include equations of Korteweg-de Vries type, the regularized long wave equations, as well as particular instances of nonlinear Schrr odinger equations.

In this article, the stability of multipulses exhibited by a conservative system of coupled nonlinear Schrr odinger equations is analysed. These multibump solitary-waves are steady-state solutions generated from a homoclinic bifurcation arising near a semi-simple eigenvalue scenario. The capacity of coupled nonlinear Schrr odinger equations to support multipulse solutions (multibump solitary-waves) is investigated. A detailed analysis is undertaken for a system of quadratically coupled equations that describe the phenomena of second harmonic generation and parametric wave interaction in non-centrosymmetric optical materials. The propagation of pulses in ideal nonlinear optical fibers without loss is governed by the nonlinear Schrrdinger equation (NLS). When considering realistic fibers one must examine perturbed NLS equations, with the particular perturbation depending on the physical situation that is being modeled. A common example is the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation (CGL), which is a dissipative perturbation...

We investigate a class of N coupled discretized nonlinear Schrr odinger equations of interacting chains in a nonlinear lattice, which, in the limit of zero coupling, become integrable Ablowitz-Ladik diierential-diierence equations. We study the existence of stationary localized excitations, in the form of solitonlike time-periodic states, by reducing the system to a perturbed 2N-dimensional sym...
